Canessa Gallery John Heartfield Event
The Canessa Gallery presents an Interactive Event with stories by John Heartfield’s grandson, the curator of The John Heartfield Exhibition. Take part in an exploration of how fascist tactics infect a democracy.

Heartfield’s life was cinematic. His artistic output was prolific and revolutionary. Many of today’s finest political artists around the world consider his work to be their most important influence. John Heartfield pioneered anti-fascist art with his photo montages attacking Nazis and dictators.

A lifelong pacifist, Heartfield used scissors and paste to create unforgettable images (“art as a weapon”) against one of the most powerful propaganda machines the world has ever known. His art stands as a testament against fascist and Nazi philosophy.
